Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy in Spokane

How long do therapy sessions last?

Typically, therapy sessions with me last 50 minutes. Sometimes, especially when treating trauma, sessions last 80 minutes. We will determine together if longer sessions would be beneficial to you after our first few sessions.

What happens during the first therapy session?

During the first therapy session, my focus is on getting to know you better. We will discuss your background and the reasons you are seeking therapy.

How often will I need to come to therapy?

I find that people generally make the most progress in therapy if they come weekly. Some people benefit from coming in twice a week.

How long will I need to come to therapy?

The short answer is, it depends. Some people find that in as little as 12 weeks their symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma have decreased substantially. Other people find that they need or want more time in therapy. I ask that you commit to therapy for at least 3 months. As we near the end of that time period, we will discuss whether you are ready to end therapy.

How much do sessions cost?

Therapy fees vary based on the type of appointment and length of appointment. The fees for service are:

  • $200 per initial intake session. The CPT code for insurance for the intake session is 90791.

  • $200 per 50-minute individual therapy session. The CPT code for insurance for 50-minute sessions is 90834.

  • $320 per 80-minute individual therapy session. The CPT code for insurance for 80-minute sessions is 90837.

  • Phone sessions and emergency contacts over 10 minutes are billed at the same rate ($40 per 10-minute increment).

Are therapy sessions covered by my insurance?

It depends on your insurance. I do not bill insurance and am considered an Out-of-Network (OON) provider. Please contact your insurance company to learn about their OON coverage and reimbursement. Many insurance companies will cover a percentage of my fee. If you have coverage, I can provide you with documentation to submit to your insurance company in order to obtain reimbursement.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions take place either in my Spokane, Washington office or via a HIPAA-compliant video platform. For video sessions, you will need an electronic device (a smartphone or computer) and a way to connect to the Internet. I can work with anyone residing in Washington state.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults aged 18 and older residing in Washington state. I’m particularly focused on working with adults who have experienced trauma and have posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or combat PTSD. I also work with high achievers who are experiencing anxiety.
